Queen Anne Lutheran - Ministries
Music
The Music Ministry at Queen Anne Lutheran Church provides opportunity for children, youth, and adults to share their musical gifts in the worship life of the congregation. All the music is prepared to support and strengthen the congregational song as well as to offer praise to God and to proclaim the Word. Arletta Anderson, our Cantor, leads the music ministry and is the Director of the three choirs. All choirs welcome new members with joy and thanksgiving!
The CHANCEL CHOIR gives opportunity to youth and adults to gather weekly on Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Wednesday evenings during Lent) to rehearse psalms, hymns, and anthems for worship. This choir of about twenty members serves weekly at the 10:30 a.m. service.
The CHERUB CHOIR gives opportunity to those in Grades 1 and 2 to enhance our worship with the unique choir sound God has gifted to children. At rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. (earlier during Lent), children learn how to sing and how to read music, as well as prepare for leadership roles in worship.
The JOYFUL SOUND CHOIR gives opportunity to those in Grades 3 through 6 with additional leadership opportunities in our worship. At rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., children add to their musical knowledge and skill. We play Orff instruments, games, enjoy snacks, and have a good time!
The HANDBELL CHOIR rehearses over several weeks to prepare music for a particular Sunday, (a set) and we do this four or five times during the academic year as announced. Youth as young as Middle School students are welcome to join the adults in this ministry. Handbells are used liturgically in our worship by smaller groups on a regular basis to accompany the singing of psalms, hymns, and liturgy.
Opportunities for instrumentalists and soloists are arranged to join the congregational song throughout the year, especially for Festivals.
Our congregation’s primary worship instrument is a Steinway Grand Piano. Later this year, a new pipe organ by builder Robert Wech will be installed.
